ABOUT ME

Modak is an Indian cinematographer working in Los Angeles and India, known for his versatile style and ability to create synesthetic imagery that lingers.

He was drawn to filmmaking for its power to give form to abstract thought and challenge conventional viewpoints. Mentored by Johnny Jensen- ASC and Michael Grady, he has developed a deep understanding of visual storytelling, crafting images that serve the narrative while pushing the boundaries of what cinema can look and feel like. He was recently awarded the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant for his upcoming film Aji.

With experience at Orbital Studios, Modak brings a speciality in virtual production, exploring how emerging technologies can expand cinematic language while staying grounded in story.

Before pursuing his MFA in Cinematography at Chapman University's Dodge College, he worked across commercials, music videos, documentaries, and branded content in India. His background in development economics continues to shape how he approaches research and structures his visual work.

Being on set is where Modak feels most at home. He is always looking for collaborators ready to bring their vision to life in unexpected ways.
